You are not alone if this meme hits a little too close to home. It is not uncommon in this stage of life for individuals to get so caught up in the tasks of their career, family, and obligations that they tend to lose themselves.
A few years ago, I read a very insightful book by Brian Dixon called Start With Your People. This book is an excellent read for those in leadership roles, as well as those who want to be excellent leaders regardless of position or title. I really enjoyed wisdom provided related to how to be a good follower as well as a leader, how to be a good spouse, how to use money as a tool, and how to market who you are and what you have to offer.
With that being said, in order to market who you are and what you have to offer, you need to be able to verbally communicate just that.
Brian Dixon provides a really great and simple formula to do just that. He calls it the Mirror Manifesto. It is not only a great way to explain to others what it is you do, but also a fantastic way for one to really map out who they are, what they want, how the contribute, and so much more, so that they can truly manifest the future they want to create.
Here is how it works:
Mirror Manifesto:
- Who is it that you want to serve?
- What does your client want as a result of working with you?
- Who is it specifically that you want to work with in that industry?
- What do you help them do?
- What desired result does your helping lead to?
- What is it that you give for free to your audience? Newsletter, advice, podcast, posts, etc.
- What is it they pay you for?
- What is it you receive on a daily basis as a result of all of that giving into the marketplace?
- What is it your clients really say you help them with?
- What is your clients long term goal?
You know how (1) wants to (2)? I help (3), (1), (4) so they can (5). I do this by (6) and (7). This gives me (8). My clients say I (9) so they can (10).
So, you want me to tell you a little about myself? GLADLY!
You know how business leaders want to create a great culture in their organization so that both their clientele as well as their employees are engaged and satisfied? I help small and large business leaders with strategic planning, change management, culture building, and much more so they can grow their organization to be highly successful and have excellent staff retention. I do this by providing informative blogs and posts and individualized strategic consultations. I find constant reward in helping others meet their full potential and seeing the rippling effects of what I pour into them flowing on to so many others. My clients say I am genuine and supportive, allowing them to feel comfortable broaching challenging topics and working through their barriers so they can lead the most effective teams and cultivate a culture of excellence in their organization.
Now you can use this formula, and feel confident the next time someone asks you to tell them a little bit about yourself!
